The region's connection with the national movement is an important document in modern history. The Kadakkal revolt of 1938 is an important event in the history of Kerala. On September 21, 1938, three people died in the police firing to disperse the State Congress session held at Shankhumukham in Thiruvananthapuram. On the same day, the police also fired at the session held at Attingal. One of them died. Some of the participants in this session led the Kadakkal revolt. The Congress ministries formed in 1937 became an inspiration for the farmers of India. Massive agricultural strikes broke out in many places in India. It is significant that the Kadakkal revolt took place in this context. The Kadakkal market was the hope of the farmers as an important center for selling agricultural produce. The movement of the people protesting against the unfair market price was transformed into the Kadakkal revolt. Hundreds of volunteers from various areas of the present panchayat participated in the Kadakkal revolution. Kadakkal is a place that gives great importance to folk arts and other classical arts. People who have an interest and tradition in many folk art forms such as Villupattu, Kambadi Kalai, Thumbithullal, Uriyadi, Kathirukala Kettal, Kuthiyottam live here. There are people in this area who still remember many Njattu songs. People who know the popular art forms such as Kakkarissi Natakam, Padayani, and Ottanthullal live in places like Kottukkal and Mathira. There are many festivals in the panchayat. Festivals organized by people of different religions as followers of religion call out cultural uniqueness. Festivals organized around churches and temples attract people of all sections. The most famous festival is Kadakkal Thiruvathira. The Mudiyettu festival, which takes place only once every twelve years, is a symbol of the interfaith brotherhood of this country.
